ROCHESTER, N.Y. – For the second year in a row, Syracuse women's rowing opened its fall racing season by recording victories in every event it was entered in at the Head of the Genesee in Rochester on Saturday.
Head coach Justin Moore's Orange posted wins in the open eight, open four, and took first, third and fifth-place in open doubles.
Syracuse opened the morning with its win in the open four, posting a total time of 36:03.44 between its head time (19:01.34) and sprint time (5:40.70), almost a full minute ahead of second-place Harvard-Radcliffe "A" (37:02.08) and third-place Harvard-Radcliffe "B" (37:51.21). SU's boat consisted of coxswain Katherine Isaza, Georgia Hamilton (stroke), Chelsea Frawley (3), Amy Ludovici (2) and Miranda Williams (1).
The wins continued for the Orange in the open double, the only event SU entered multiple boats with three. The "A" crew of Holly Johnston and Rebecca Soja won in a total time of 37:45.00 with Harvard-Radcliffe placing second, and the Orange's "B" crew of Rose Aschebrock and Caroline Habjan completing the podium in third place.
SU completed its sweep in its final event, the open eight. The Orange's crew of Marta Ulbricht (coxswain), Georgia Hamilton (stroke), Chelsea Frawley (7), Rebecca Soja (6), Amy Ludovici (5), Miranda Williams (4), Yasmine Hemida (3), Holly Johnston (2) and Rose Aschebrock (bow) used a better sprint time to make up for a head time deficit to beat Harvard-Radcliffe with a total time of 33:17.98 to the Black and White's 33:20.31.
Syracuse continues its fall season on Oct. 20 at the renowned Head of the Charles in Boston.
