Basketball Tips Off at Orange Madness

Men's and women's basketball teams introduced
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's and women's teams officially made their entrances into the Carrier Dome for the first time in 2014-15 at Orange Madness on Friday night.

Both the men's and women's teams were introduced to the Syracuse faithful in style. Head men's basketball Jim Boeheim was escorted by members of the U.S. Army from nearby Fort Drum in a military Humvee. Head women's basketball Quentin Hillsman made his grand entrance in a classic convertible.

The women's basketball team scrimmaged first following its introduction. The Orange team defeated the Blue squad, 11-9, behind a layup from junior guard Cornelia Fondren with under a minute remaining. Junior forward Taylor Ford led all scorers with seven points on the night.

Following the women's scrimmage, junior guard Brianna Butler and redshirt junior guard Trevor Cooney faced off in a 3-point competition. Cooney came out victorious, sinking 15 to Butler's nine.

After the 3-point contest, the legends of Syracuse men's basketball took the court in an alumni game. The Orange team defeated its Blue counterparts in the final seconds, 27-25. Terrence Roberts slammed home the winning basket with seconds to spare.

Junior forward Michael Gbinije started things off with a bang taking a pass from sophomore guard Ron Patterson for the alley-oop to start the game. The White team came away with the 35-28 win against the Orange squad with 10-year old Nicholas Trivelpiece sinking the final bucket of the night for the victorious White team.

The dunk contest concluded the night after the men's scrimmage. Sophomore forward B.J. Johnson won the contest, besting freshman forward Chris McCullough and Gbinije.Â
