SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 3/3 Syracuse scored the first five goals of the game and never looked back in its 17-4 victory against Harvard on Tuesday, March 18 in the Carrier Dome. Twelve different players had at least one goal for the Orange, which improved to 8-1 this season.

While the offense was clicking, the Syracuse defense shut down Harvard. The Orange had 14 caused turnovers, led by senior Natalie Glanell's three, which tied her career high. SU allowed just 13 shots and didn't give the Crimson (3-3) a free position attempt.

"I thought we played hard and the defense was outstanding today," Orange head coach Gary Gait said. "The offense created a lot of good scoring opportunities and I was happy about that."

Senior Alyssa Murray led the balanced offensive attack, registering a game-high five points on two goals and three assists. Junior Devon Collins led the team with three goals, while sophomore Kayla Treanor had four points on a goal and three assists. Junior Kailah Kempney and freshman Taylor Poplawski had two goals apiece.

Murray started the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 27:22 mark. It was the first of five unanswered goals for the Orange. Murray had two goals during the stretch, while Treanor had two assists. After Alexis Nicolia found the back of the net at the 19:15 mark, the Orange outscored the Crimson, 5-1, during the final 14:20 to take a 10-2 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Orange continued to build on its lead after intermission. Senior Katie Webster netted the first goal of the half at the 28:51 mark and Collins recorded back-to-back goals to extend Syracuse's lead to 13-2 with 23:33 to play. Sophia Capone scored Harvard's first goal of the second half with 21:56 on the clock before Poplawski, freshman Devon Parker and sophomores Erica Bodt and Grace Donahue all found the back of the net in the final 17:03 as Syracuse posted the 13-goal victory.

The Orange outshot Harvard, 37-13, and picked up 18 ground balls to nine for the Crimson. Syracuse once again controlled the circle, winning 15-of-23 draw controls. Senior Alyssa Costantino started in goal for SU for the second consecutive game, and junior Kelsey Richardson made five saves in the second half. Kelly Weis had 12 saves for Harvard.

Syracuse continues its homestand Sunday, March 23 when it hosts No. 7/8 Northwestern at 1 p.m.
