The Spring Game is set for Saturday, April 19 in the Carrier Dome and head coach Scott Shafer invites Orange Nation to come watch his 2014 team in an intra-squad scrimmage. Doors open at 10 a.m. and the scrimmage will begin at 1 p.m.
The team will take the field at 11:30 a.m. for pre-game stretch and warmup. There is no admission charge and parking is free in all Stadium West lots. Coupons for a free hot dog and soda will be distributed at the Dome gates, while supplies last.
"It will be a good scrimmage and we'll get creative with some things that we do to get everybody involved," Shafer said at the Tuesday media opportunity. "I'm looking forward to having the kids play in front of the community again and getting back after it."
Shafer has made it an offense vs. defense scrimmage with a point system so both the offense and defense can score. The offense will earn points the traditional way while the defense will score off interceptions, three-and-outs, turnovers on downs and, of course, touchdowns of its own.
At halftime the trailing team will get a chance to earn points at the hand—or foot—of sophomore punter Riley Dixon. If Dixon can land the ball inside the 15-yard line the team will earn a point, inside the 10-yard line is worth two and inside the five-yard line is worth three points.
"We'll probably play a little seven-on seven to get warmed up before we start the scrimmage," Shafer said. "We'll send the guys out of the tunnel and have a coin toss and have some fun with it. I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait to get the community out there and I know the kids can't wait to play in front of some people. It should be a great day."
Shafer will wear a wireless microphone throughout the afternoon to provide insight about what is happening on the field. During the game a lucky fan will be selected to attempt and make a field goal to win a pair of 2014 football season tickets.
In addition, the Syracuse Marching Band, Orange spirit squad and Otto will perform throughout the event. Following the game, fans are invited onto the Dome field for a 30 minute autograph session with the team and an opportunity for kids to enjoy inflatable games.
All 2014 season ticket holders, including those who purchase tickets on April 19 at the Dome, are invited to sit in sections 101 and 116, which will be reserved for this group.
The annual 'Select-A-Seat' event gives fans the opportunity to walk the Dome and choose the best available location for 2014 season tickets. A sampling of available seats will be marked in each section, and members from the Carrier Dome Box Office will be on hand to assist with the selection process and to answer any questions.
The 2014 Spring game will be televised live by Time Warner Cable Sports.
Syracuse opens the 2014 season against Villanova on Friday, August 29. To celebrate the excitement in the program, head coach Scott Shafer announced today the 'Coach Shafer Buyout' for the opener. For every ticket purchased for the Villanova game, Shafer will buy an additional ticket for that fan. The offer includes season tickets already purchased.
All Orange fans are invited to purchase or renew 2014 Syracuse football season tickets, which start at $99, or purchase a three-game package that includes Villanova, Florida State and a third home game in the Dome of the fan's choice ($125 per package). In addition, discounted group tickets (20+), with prices as low as $10 each, are available for all home games. Tickets can be purchased via the internet (Cuse.com), telephone (888-DOMETIX), or by visiting the Carrier Dome Box Office (Gate B).
