Friday Morning Heat Recaps
In the V8 heat, Cal established itself as the leader early with Boston University and Wisconsin battling for second as Syracuse and Oregon State battled for fourth with Gonzaga (6:15.968) well off the pace. Cal (5:40.679) cruised to the win with BU (5:43.945) pulling away from the Badgers (5:49.261) in the final 500 meters. The Beavers (5:51.224) were able to hold off the fifth-place Orange (5:53.239).
In the 2V8 heat, Syracuse got off to a good start, running tightly with Navy and Columbia for second-place behind Princeton through the first 750 meters. The Midshipmen and Lions stretched out to a half-length lead over the Orange through the 1,000, but Syracuse used a terrific sprint to overtake Columbia and finish third.
In the 3V8 heat, Washington took control of the race early on its way to victory, while the Orange held onto second-place through the 500-meter mark until Princeton overtook the Orange for second. SU's crew stayed strong in the second 1,000, slowly distancing itself from Navy by a length to claim third.
