Gary and Paul Gait helped the Orange win three straight NCAA titles
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The list of honors and awards for Syracuse lacrosse legends Gary and Paul Gait continues to grow.
Already members of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, the Gaits join Andy Ogilvie, Gil Nieuwendyk, Harry Nightingale, David General, Reo Jerome, Ron Roy and the 1983-1993 BC Women's Selects Field Lacrosse team as 2014 inductees into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Natives of Victoria, British Columbia, the Gaits played at Syracuse from 1987-1990 and helped lead the Orange to three NCAA championships. Gary Gait was a three-time All-American and the USILA Player of the Year twice. After his college career, he played for the Canadian National Team and earned a place on the All-World Team in 1990, 1994, and 1998. In addition, he played professional indoor lacrosse for 15 years and he earned league MVP honors in both the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and Major League Lacrosse (MLL).
Gary is currently the head coach of the women's lacrosse team at his alma mater. In seven seasons with the Orange women, he holds a 115-34 record and guided the team to national championship game appearances in 2012 and 2014.
Paul Gait was also a three-time All-American at Syracuse and played for the Canadian National Team in 1990, '94, '98 and 2002, earning All-World honors in 1994. Like his brother, Paul was a star in the National Lacrosse League and won NLL MVP honors in 2002.
Both brothers were named to Lacrosse Magazine's All-20th Century Team and the NCAA's 25th Anniversary Team.
This year's Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame induction banquet and ceremony will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the ANVIL Centre in New Westminster, British Columbia.
