Sophomore medically disqualified due to multiple concussions
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore quarterback AJ Long will not continue his collegiate athletics career with the Orange.
Â
Long has suffered multiple concussions while at Syracuse University. After reviewing his concussion history, team physician Dr. James Tucker disqualified him from further participation in football and any other contact sport at Syracuse on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Â
"We appreciate AJ's hard work and the contributions he's made to our program," Orange head coach Scott Shafer said. "I look forward to watching him continue to grow both as a student and as a young man. I wish him the best."
Â
Long did not play in any of SU's first five games this season. As a freshman in 2014, he made six appearances (five starts) and passed 935 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for two scores. Long's best game was against NC State when he threw for a career-high 307 yards and two touchdowns.
