GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse redshirt junior attackman Dylan Donahue and sophomore faceoff specialist Ben Williams captured a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference weekly awards on Monday, Feb. 23.
Â
Last week's ACC Offensive Player of the Week, Donahue earned conference co-Offensive Player of the Week honors Monday for his performance in last night's 12-9 win against Army. He shared this week's award with North Carolina attackman Jimmy Bitter.
Â
Williams was tabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career for his work at the faceoff X against the Black Knights.
Â
Donahue scored a season-high five goals and added one assist to finish with six points against Army. He scored three of SU's five first-half goals. He also registered one goal and one assist during a 5-1 third-quarter run that sealed the game, and added his fifth goal of the night early in the fourth period. It was Donahue's 14th career hat trick and he extended his point streak to 26 games.
Â
Williams won 21 of the game's 25 faceoffs, good for an .840 winning percentage. His performance helped keep the ball out of the hands of Army's explosive offense, which entered the game averaging 18.67 goals per contest. Williams claimed all 11 faceoffs in the first half and 15 of the first 16. He did not lose a draw until the start of the third quarter. In addition, Williams picked up a career-high 13 ground balls, tied for the ninth-highest, single-game total in school history.
Â
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday, March 1 for a noon showdown with Virginia at the Carrier Dome.
