Orange earns 12 scholar-athlete awards and two all-regions honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's rowing team led the Atlantic Coast Conference with 12 scholar-athlete awards and earned two All-Region 3 honors when the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced its postseason awards on Thursday.
Â
Junior Deirdre Fitzpatrick was named to the All-Region 3 First Team. Fitzpatrick earned First Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference accolades following the ACC Championship. Senior Georgia Hamilton garnered All-Region 3 Second Team honors, marking the second straight year she was named all-region.
Â
The all-region awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections. Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations, and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season. These athletes will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
Â
Kelsey Adams, Rose Aschebrock, Fitzpatrick, Chelsea Frawley, Caroline Habjan, Hamilton, Amy Ludovici, Shannon McCann, Saydee McQuay, Olivia Mennillo, Ailish Tinney, and Kari Tomeny all were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes. Aschebrock, Habjan, and Ludovici each earned scholar-athlete recognition for the third time in their collegiate careers, while Frawley and Hamilton received their second all-time honor.
Â
The 12 Orange honorees met the following scholar athlete criteria:
- The student-athlete has met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution
- The student-athlete was in her 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of eligibility
- The student-athlete rowed in her institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.
- The Head Coach of the student-athletes institution was a member in good standing of the CRCA as of May 1, 2015.
- The student-athlete has had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
