JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Jacksonville Sharks of the Arena Football League announced Wednesday that former Syracuse defensive back Keon Lyn has signed a one-year rookie contract with the franchise.
Lyn will enter his first year in the AFL after stints in both the National Football League and Canadian Football League. The 26-year-old was originally signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent following the 2014 NFL Draft, but was then waived by Indianapolis before most recently spending time in the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Prior to his professional career, Lyn was a standout at Syracuse before suffering a season-ending injury five games into his senior campaign of 2013. During his junior year, Lyn started 10 games for the Orange in the defensive backfield, setting career highs with 46 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, three interceptions and 10 passes defended. In 2011, Lyn made nine starts as a sophomore, tallying 23 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and three passes defended. He also saw limited action as a freshman in 2010.
A native of South Florida, Lyn attended Miramar High School, where he helped lead the Patriots to a state championship as a senior in 2009.
Lyn and the Sharks are scheduled to take on the Philadelphia Soul in their next contest on July 18 at 7 p.m. The game can be seen live via the WatchESPN app.
