Syracuse and Virginia Tech to meet for first time since 2003
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse football team returns home for the first time in four weeks to host nationally-ranked Virginia Tech on Saturday, Oct. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. inside the Carrier Dome.

Halfway through its first season under head coach Dino Babers, Syracuse is 2-4 overall. The Orange are coming off a 28-9 loss at Wake Forest on Oct. 8. Junior linebacker Parris Bennett notched 10 tackles for the third consecutive game, finishing with 12 stops against the Demon Deacons.

"I thought that our defense played extremely well," Babers in his weekly news conference on Monday morning. "There were some outstanding individual performances. I thought Parris Bennett, Zaire Franklin, our linebackers, did a fabulous job, for the most part."

After trips to Connecticut and Wake Forest and a neutral-site matchup against Notre Dame at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., the Orange are looking foward to performing in front of the fans in Central New York. Saturday's game marks the Orange's first home date since Sept. 17 against USF.

"We're excited to get back into the Dome," said Babers. "No rain, no wind, no snow. We're looking forward to putting a fantastic effort back home in front of the fans."

Virginia Tech is another formidable opponent in a 2016 scheduled loaded with quality teams. In the latest national polls, the Hokies are ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 19 in the Amway Coaches rankings.

"The team we are about to play on Saturday, Virginia Tech, has a proud tradition," Babers said. "Of course with Justin Fuente, he is an outstanding offensive coach. Bud Foster is a fabulous defensive coordinator, one of the top defensive coordinators in college football. They have a lot of good players. It's going to be a challenging task."
