Field Hockey Up to No. 2 After Weekend Sweep
10/11/2016 11:33:00 AM | Field Hockey
After defeating then No. 2 Duke 5-1 and downing Cornell 5-0 this weekend, the Syracuse field hockey team (12-1, 4-1 ACC) moved up two spots to No. 2 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll, just seven points behind top ranked UConn.
The Huskies received 759 points and 18 first place votes, while the Orange collected 752 points and 11 first place votes. ACC rivals North Carolina (705 points, six first place votes) and Duke (702 points, five first place votes) sit in third and fourth respectively, with Penn State (609 points) rounding out the top five.
Complete Poll
All-seven ACC programs are ranked, including five teams which currently sit in the top-10, with Louisville checking in at seven and Virginia ranked 10th. Boston College (13th) and Wake Forest (17th) round out the conference's teams in the poll. It's the 42nd-straight poll in which every team from the league is ranked.
Syracuse has two remaining games against ranked opponents in the regular season, with a game against the Cavaliers on Saturday and No. 14 Boston University playing the Orange the following week. Head coach Ange Bradley's squad is 7-1 against ranked opponents thus far in 2016.
Tuesday's poll is the 95th-straight week the Orange has been ranked and the 23rd-straight poll where 'Cuse has been placed in the top-10.
Saturday's game at Virginia, which is the regular season ACC finale, is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time in Charlottesville. That game can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
