Orange Sweep NFHCA National Player of the Week Accolades
10/12/2016 4:03:00 PM | Field Hockey
After sweeping ACC Performer of the Week honors, senior forward Emma Lamison and sophomore back Roos Weers claimed NFHCA National Player of the Week honors on Wednesday.
They're the third and fourth members of the Orange to earn NFHCA National Player of the Week honors this week after Lies Lagerweij and Regan Spencer claimed the award in the first and second weeks of the year.
Lamison claimed NFHCA Offensive Player of the Week after playing a role in six of the Orange's 10 goals on the weekend, while Weers was tabbed NFHCA Defensive Player of the Week after holding Duke and Cornell to just one combined goal while scoring four of her own.
Lamison assisted on a pair of early Weers goals before scoring two of her own in little more than 25 minutes to start the Orange's win over Duke. She followed that performance up with another two assists to start off 'Cuse's 5-0 win over Cornell on Sunday. The Liverpool, N.Y. native earned the honor for the second time this season after collecting the honor following Syracuse's win over Wake Forest earlier this season.
Weers scored the first two goals in each win this weekend, with all-four goals coming off corners. In the backfield, she allowed just one goal over the course of the weekend, which came off a corner, and allowed a total of seven shots on goal throughout the weekend.
Syracuse will close out regular season conference play on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the team travels to Charlottesville, Va. to face the Cavaliers.
