Strong Second Half Leads Orange Past Bison 4-3

Lagerweij scores twice to complete weekend sweep
After Bucknell jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and went into the half leading 2-1, No. 4 Syracuse (10-1) upped its play in the final-35 minutes to outscore the Bison 3-1 in the second half and come away with a 4-3 win.
Lies Lagerweij scored the third and fourth Orange goal to mount a 4-2 lead before the Bison notched another goal in the waning seconds to give the final result.
Nicole Rupnik put Bucknell up 1-0 in the fourth minute of action after the Bison drew the game's first penalty corner. That'd serve as the only tally until the final minute of the first half – much of which Syracuse played down players after two yellow cards and a green card were handed out in a physical first half.
Â
Serra Degnan then provided the equalizer with 48 ticks remaining before halftime off a rebound from an initial shot by Emma Lamison. The game would only stand tied for 17 seconds though, because Rupnik again found the back of the net following another rebound.
Bucknell went to the locker room with the lead, but Syracuse came storming out for the second half.
Â
Lamison scored on a blast from the top-right side of the circle just 3:35 into the second half to again tie the game before Lagerweij gave the Orange their first lead with 15 minutes to play in regulation.
Â
The score again came off a Lamison rebound. Lagerweij then provided some insurance four minutes later when she fired a blast over the keeper's shoulder from 10 yards out to make it 4-2 Orange.
Bucknell's Stephanie Dressler buried the final score off a penalty corner with 24 seconds left in the game, but that's all they'd get and the Orange swept the weekend and took their third-straight victory on Sunday.
Syracuse outshot Bucknell 20-8 in the contest and drew seven corners to the Bison's four.
The Orange will next play another top-five contest on Friday when Syracuse hosts No. 3 Duke at J.S. Coyne Stadium. That game is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m.
