SYRACUSE, N.Y. –Syracuse sophomore Tyler Lydon has been selected to the 2017 Karl Malone Pre-Season Watch List, announced Thursday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The award recognizes the top power forward in Division I men's college basketball each year.
Lydon is 1-of-20 Division I players to be named to the list, determined by a national committee of top collegiate basketball personnel.
The list will be narrowed mid-season to 10 players, while the five finalists will be announced in March. The winner of the 2017 Karl Malone Award will be presented by Wendy's at the ESPN College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles, Calif., on April 7, 2017.
Lydon was an integral part of the Orange success last year, as the rookie averaged 10.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game over the season. The forward helped the Orange reach the Final Four for the sixth time in school history by averaging 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game in the five-game NCAA tournament run.
Lydon and the Orange basketball team open the 2016-17 season at the Carrier Dome on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 when they welcome Indiana University (Pa.) for an exhibition game.
Season tickets, which remain the best ticket value for fans, are on sale now. There are a limited number of $250 season tickets still available.
