Women's Hoops Holds Annual Media Day

Syracuse opens the year against Rhode Island on Nov. 11
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 2016-17 season officially kicked off the for Syracuse women's basketball program as it held its annual media day in the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center on Friday afternoon.
"This is a big day for us," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "We have been practicing for a while, but this really signifies the opening of our season. We are very happy to be back here. We are very excited to be in-season."
Syracuse is coming off its most successful season in its history. The Orange advanced to their first NCAA Tournament final, accumulating a program-record 30 victories on the way. SU returns four starters from last year's team, highlighted by senior guard Alexis Peterson and redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes.
"I am excited for the opportunity to come back out and play, compete at a high level," commented Peterson. "We have a great group of girls. I am looking forward to playing with them."
"We know the type of team we are," added Sykes. "No ranking can tell us how great we are. All we can do is to prove them wrong."
Senior center Bria Day, senior center Briana Day, and senior forward Isabella Slim give Syracuse an experienced frontcourt. Briana Day and Slim each started all 38 games last year, while Bria Day added 12.0 minutes off the bench.
"My expectations are for this to be the best, as best as we know how," said Briana Day. "We know there are going to be bumps in the road. People are going to make mistakes. It's not going to be a perfect season, but we want to do what we know how to do, the best we can do it."
"We are looking forward to playing our best, every game, every night," concluded Bria Day. "We are trying to make it back to where we went last year, get to the national championship game and win."
Fans can get their first glimpse of the 2016-17 Orange on Friday, Oct. 21 at Preferred Mutual Orange Madness. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Tickets are available for purchase online or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office.
