Leads the conference and ranks 10th nationally in scoring
ATLANTA – Senior guard Alexis Peterson of the Syracuse women's basketball team was named to the watch list for the 2017 Naismith Women's College Player of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Wednesday morning.
Peterson is the first member of the Orange women's basketball program to be named to the watch list for the annual award since Brittney Sykes was recognized in 2014.
The Columbus, Ohio native leads the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranks 10th nationally in scoring, averaging 22.1 points per game this season. Peterson ranks eighth in program history with 1,362 points scored in her collegiate career.
A child and family studies major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, Peterson has collected numerous accolades already this year. The senior guard was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team and recognized on the watch list for the 2017 Nancy Lieberman Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top point guard.
Peterson and the Orange return to the Carrier Dome on Wednesday night when they host No. 22 Michigan State. Wednesday's game will be Women in Business Day, as well. An hour-long networking session will be held in Club 44 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. In addition, the first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative professional pen. For more information, click here.
