Syracuse notched at least 90 points for the third time this year
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 20/21 Syracuse women's basketball team eclipsed the 90-point mark for the third time this season in a 95-63 victory against Central Connecticut State on Sunday afternoon in the Carrier Dome.
"I am very happy with the effort," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "That was the biggest thing for us coming in, just getting the maximum effort for our players. I thought we played really hard."
Syracuse (6-3) never trailed against Central Connecticut State (1-6). The Orange went up, 20-10, with 2:43 remaining in the first quarter and led by at least 10 points for the remainder of the contest.
Briana Day, Alexis Peterson, and Brittney Sykes all scored at least 20 points against the Blue Devils. It marked the first time Dec. 4, 2005 that Syracuse had at least three 20-point scorers in a single game. In addition, Peterson and Sykes each had 26 points, becoming the first Orange duo to each score 25 points since March 18, 2009.
Peterson notched 26 points and 10 assists on the day, notching her third double-double of her collegiate career. The team finished with a season-high 25 assists against Central Connecticut State.
Sykes had 26 points and a personal-best 14 rebounds, good enough for her eighth double-double of her career. The Newark, N.J. native now has 1,374 career points, moving into ninth place on the Syracuse all-time scoring list.
Day added a season-high 22 points and eight rebounds. The senior center is 16 boards shy of moving into fifth place on the program's all-time rebounds list.
Syracuse is back in action on Wednesday morning when it hosts Coppin State at 11 a.m. in the Carrier Dome. Wednesday's contest is School Day. Anti-bullying and health and wellness presentations will occur prior to tipoff.
