Orange's 2016 Spring Schedule Features New England Revolution
2/15/2016 4:41:00 PM | Men's Soccer
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse men's soccer coach Ian McIntyre has released the team's 2016 spring schedule. Beginning in March and continuing through April, the Orange will play six matches, including two at home. The slate features games against three professional clubs, including Major League Soccer's (MLS) New England Revolution.
Â
"This is a very challenging schedule and we'll learn a lot about our players," McIntyre said. "We want to test our players and there is no better way than to play high-level matches against professional teams and very good college teams. While we're very proud of last fall's success as ACC Champions and run to the NCAA College Cup, we're also looking to build momentum and begin creating a new identity for this fall."
Â
Syracuse opens the spring season with three consecutive road matches, starting on March 6 against the Bethlehem Steel, the United Soccer League (USL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Union. Another road tilt follows on March 26 versus the Rochester Rhinos, another USL team, before Syracuse takes on the New England Revolution on April 2.
Â
The Orange returns home to play against Canada's Vaughn FC on April 9 before another away match at Colgate on April 17. The final match on the spring schedule will be played at home on April 23 against Herkimer.
Â
Syracuse posted a 16-5-4 record last season and was just one victory shy of the school record. The Orange won their first ACC Championship and earned a program-best No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse advanced to the College Cup for the first time in school history. The Orange had two players picked in the first round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft in January – Julian Buescher by DC United and Ben Polk by the Portland Timbers.
