Butler now ranks 20th in NCAA Division I history
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The records have continued to be broken as the Syracuse University women's basketball team nears the end of the 2015-16 regular season. With its 70-56 victory at Pittsburgh on Feb. 21, Syracuse continued to etch its name in the record books.
Â
"It's amazing. The kids have played really, really tough," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "We have had some good players. Just to be in situations where we are winning games and stringing games together says a lot about our talent and our kids will to win."
Â
The Orange have won a program-record eight conference games in-a-row, with their last loss coming on Jan. 25 against No. 14/17 Louisville. With one game remaining in the regular season, Syracuse has already won 22 games and 12 contests in Atlantic Coast Conference competition. A victory at Boston College in its regular season finale would match the program record in regular season wins and conference victories.
Â
Individually, junior guard Alexis Peterson became the program's 26th 1,000-point scorer against the Panthers. Peterson is the 10th player to reach the milestone under Hillsman and third player on the current Orange roster. Senior guard Brianna Butler also made history, as she now ranks 20th in NCAA Division I history with 342 career 3-point field goals.
Â
The way the team is playing right now, the season is far from over. Syracuse is looking to lock up a high seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament and earn its fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Certainly, more records could continue to be shattered.
Â
The Orange will conclude their regular season on Thursday evening at Boston College. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
