Coaches Pick Orange as Preseason ACC Favorite

Three members of the Orange named to Preseason All-ACC Team.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse has been voted the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) title in a poll of the league's eight women's lacrosse head coaches. In addition, seniors Kayla Treanor, Halle Majorana and Mallory Vehar were selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team.

The Orange received five first-place votes and tallied 61 points to take the top spot in the poll. Syracuse is the defending ACC Tournament champion. North Carolina, last year's runner-up, received the other three first-place votes and 59 points, while Notre Dame was picked third with 45 points. Duke (31 points) narrowly edged out Boston College and Virginia for the fourth spot. The Eagles and Cavaliers both received 30 points to tie for fifth. Louisville (24 points) was picked seventh and Virginia Tech (8 points) eighth.

Treanor is the two-time defending ACC Offensive Player of the Year and a two-time All-ACC First Team selection. She recorded 91 points last season on 60 goals and 31 assists. Treanor led the league in game-winning goals last season with five. She earned the ACC Tournament MVP after scoring the game-winning goals in overtime against Boston College in the quarterfinals and North Carolina in the championship game.

Majorana earned All-ACC First Team honors last season when she recorded 91 points on 55 goals and 36 assists. She was also named to the ACC All-Tournament Team after scoring three goals in the championship game.

Vehar led the Orange in caused turnovers last season with a career-high 27. In addition, she finished second on the squad with 38 ground ball. Vehar was voted to the ACC All-Tournament Team last season after she helped Syracuse defeat the No. 4, No. 3 and No. 2 teams in the nation in a span of 72 hours.

The Orange open the 2016 campaign on Sunday, Feb. 14 when it hosts No. 13 Loyola at 12 p.m. and Binghamton at 7:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
