Orange Drop Two Against Eagles on Senior Day

Â
Senior Corinne Ozanne logged her 50th career hit out of the park in the first game, accounting for the Orange's two RBIs on the day with a blast over the right field fence for a two-run homer. She finished the afternoon with two hits and a .833 slugging percentage.
Â
Sophomore Sammy Fernandez tallied her 57th hit of the season in the first game, setting her up on base two at-bats before Ozanne's home run. Freshman Alicia Hansen recorded a double in the second game, her fourth of the season.
Â
GAME 1
The Eagles got things going in the second inning off of a two-run homer past the left center field wall by freshman Carly Severini. Boston College continued the surge in the next inning, starting off with a run after a batter got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. A sacrifice fly in the next at bat plated another run, before two RBI singles in a row made it a 6-0 ballgame.
Â
The Orange got on board in the bottom half of the third, after a lead-off base hit down the left field line set up Fernandez at first. With one out on the board, Ozanne sent her 14th home run of the season past right field to cut the Eagles' advantage down to four runs.
Â
Boston College continued to answer, however, resuming the offensive outburst with a lead-off homer to center field in the top of the fourth inning by sophomore Chloe Sharabba. With one out, a back-to-back single and a double put two more runs on the board, before another RBI single in the next at bat gave the visiting team a 10-2 advantage. The Eagles topped it off with two more runs off of three hits to finish out the inning up by ten runs.
Â
After the six-run, eight-hit inning for the Eagles in the fourth, neither team allowed the other a hit the rest of the way to finish the 12-2 five-inning game.
Â
Senior Jocelyn Cater tossed the first 3.2 innings of the game, before fellow senior Lindsey Larkin stepped in to finish out the third inning and part of the fourth. Cater re-entered the circle to finish the rest of the game, allowing seven runs off of 11 hits while retiring three batters.
Â
GAME 2
After two scoreless innings, Boston College's Severini struck again with a lead-off homer past left field to make it a 1-0 ballgame. Severini added another RBI in the top of the fifth off of a ground out that sent the runner at third home.
Â
The Eagles held the Orange hitless until the bottom of the fifth, when a hit up the middle by sophomore Rachel Burkhardt loaded the bases with one out. Two strikeouts in a row, however, ended hopes for a 'Cuse rally, stranding all three on base. Boston College capped the shutout win in the top of the sixth with an RBI double to center field and an RBI base hit to right field by Severini.
Â
Sophomore AnnaMarie Gatti threw all seven frames, allowing five runs off of eight hits while tallying two Ks.
Â
The Orange and the Eagles square off one final time tomorrow in the series finale set for 12 p.m. at Skytop Softball Stadium.
