CLEMSON, S.C. – The Syracuse women's volleyball team recorded a season-high .417 hitting percentage in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-20) victory over Clemson Sunday afternoon in an ACC matchup at Jervey Gym. The Orange improves to 15-8 and 7-3 in the conference. The Tigers drop to 6-16 and 1-9.
Anastasiya Gorelina produced a match-high 17 kills and added six digs. Jalissa Trotter added a team-high 23 assists, Santita Ebangwese had nine kills with five blocks and Belle Sand totaled a match-leading 11 digs.
How It Was Decided
With the first set knotted up at 18, 'Cuse pulled away with a 7-2 run to win 25-20. Ebangwese and Ella Saada each produced a kill to go along with five Clemson errors during the run.
Syracuse opened up a 19-10 second set lead and cruised to a 25-15 victory. Ebangwese and Gorelina each had four kills.
A tightly contested third set was all square at 19, but the Orange outscored Clemson 6-1 down the stretch and was victorious, 25-20. Amber Witherspoon recorded two kills, Gorelina added a kill and 'Cuse forced three Tiger errors at the end.
Coach's Thoughts
"We had a few individuals really stand out today," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "Our hitting numbers were very good, but going into the second half of conference play we need our girls to continue to step up. There are some tough opponents ahead."
Of Note
Ebangwese tallied kills on nine of 11 attempts for a .818 hitting percentage. That total is tied for the fifth-highest single-match mark in program history.
What's Next?
Syracuse returns home to face Virginia Tech and Virginia on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 29 at 1 p.m., respectively. Both matches are free of charge and will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.
