Balanced Attack Powers Syracuse Past Virginia Tech

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Three different 'Cuse members totaled at least 10 kills and the Syracuse women's volleyball team defeated Virginia Tech, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-18), Friday night at the Women's Building in an ACC contest. The Orange improves to 16-8 and 8-3 in conference play. The Hokies drop to 8-14 and 2-9.
Anastasiya Gorelina produced a match-high 14 kills and added eight digs. Ella Saada and Santita Ebangwese each tallied 10 kills, Jalissa Trotter finished with a match-leading 34 assists and Belle Sand led all competitors with 12 digs. Amber Witherspoon added a match-high six blocks.
How It Was Decided
Syracuse used a 12-4 scoring run to break away from a 4-4 tie in the first set. Kills from Witherspoon and Gorelina capped of a 25-19 victory.
The Orange momentum carried over into the second set. 'Cuse used a 13-3 scoring run to take control and cruise to a 25-13 triumph. Gorelina totaled five kills and Trotter added nine assists and seven digs in the set.
Syracuse never trailed in the third set, a 25-18 victory. The Orange scored the match's final three points on two Gorelina kills and a Virginia Tech attack error.
Coach's Thoughts
"We did what we had to do tonight, we won," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "This time of the season almost feels like playoffs. You win and move on. Our focus is on Virginia now."
Of Note
Gorelina has led the Orange in kills for seven matches in a row. The outside hitter continues to flourish in ACC play, averaging 4.13 kills per set.

'Cuse faces Virginia on Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. in the Women's Building. The match is free of charge and will be broadcasted live on ACC Network Extra.
