Polaski, Rowswell Score in Loss to No. 1 Wisconsin

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Emma Polaski scored her first collegiate goal as the Orange closed its first home series of the season with a 5-2 loss to No. 1 Wisconsin, Saturday afternoon at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Sophomore Kelli Rowswell recorded the other goal for 'Cuse, her first of the season.
"I thought the [team] stepped up, competed hard and did a real good job," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "It wasn't because of a lack of trying or effort because the kids had great enthusiasm. We just lacked in the execution part."
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
Wisconsin scored a pair of power play goals in the last three minutes of the first period to take a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Rowswell cut the deficit in half for the Orange just over a minute into the second period when she picked up a rebound and blasted a shot past the goalie for the power play goal.
Down 3-1 in the early minutes of the third period, Polaski gave 'Cuse some life as she knocked the puck past the goalie to bring the Orange back to within one. The Badgers responded with a pair of goals to close out the game, 5-2, in favor of the visitors.
OF NOTE
It was a game of firsts as Polaski tallied her first goal in an Orange uniform. Freshman Victoria Klimek recorded an assist on the Polaski goal for her first career point, as well. Rowswell was the first Orange player to score a goal this season as she notched her fourth career goal.
UP NEXT
