Syracuse Concludes Road Slate with Loss at Miami

Coral Gables, Fla. – Santita Ebangwese, Kendra Lukacs and Amber Witherspoon each produced seven kills as the Syracuse women's volleyball team lost 3-1 (25-21, 17-25, 13-25, 12-25) at Miami Sunday afternoon in an ACC matchup. The Hurricanes improve to 17-5 and 11-5 in conference play. The Orange drops to 17-12 and 9-7.

Annie Bozzo added a team-high 25 assists and Belle Sand led 'Cuse with 19 digs. Ebangwese and Witherspoon finished with five blocks each.

Three Miami student-athletes finished with double-digit kills. Olga Strantzali led the Hurricanes with 19 kills and 11 digs. Haley Templeton added a match-high 43 assists and Sylvia Hernandez led all competitors with 22 digs.

How It Was Decided
Miami jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the first set, but Syracuse scored five unanswered points to even it up at six. The Orange led 22-21 and an Ella Saada kill along with two Miami errors resulted in a 25-21 victory.

The Hurricanes used a 13-4 run in the second set to take a 21-12 lead. Miami controlled the remainder of the set and won 25-17.

A 10-3 run in the third set opened up a 13-6 Hurricane lead. Miami continued to roll and took the set 25-13. The Hurricanes surged again in the fourth set and came away with a 25-12 triumph.

Coach's Thoughts
"They jumped out to an early lead in the first set and we made some changes which worked well for us," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "Unfortunately, we were unable to sustain the same level of play that we had in the first set."

Of Note
With 19 digs on the afternoon Sand now ranks third in program history with 1,476 career digs.

What's Next?
Syracuse returns home on Friday, Nov. 17 to face Wake Forest at 7 p.m. in the Women's Building. The match will be broadcasted live on ACC Network Extra.
