SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse head volleyball coach Leonid Yelin has announced the addition of Elena Karakasi to the 2018 roster.
"There are many attributes that Elena brings," said Yelin. "She brings international experience, playing for her junior national team. They made it to the European Championships last year."
"She is a setter that has good skills and a great personality. She will please her hitters, trying to do everything to get them better. We are really excited to have her."
Karakasi is a six-foot setter from Marousi-Athens, Greece. A captain of the Markopoulo V.C. junior team, Karakasi led Markopoulo to a regional championship and a runner-up finish at the Greek Championship in the 2016-17 season. The team also won regionals and placed fourth at the Greek Championship during the 2015-16 season.
Karakasi has also been a member of the U17 and U19 Greece national teams. Greece finished third at the Balkan Volleyball Association (BVA) Championship held in Montenegro in 2016 and at the 2015 BVA championship hosted by Turkey.
