
Six Orange Earn All-Region Honors

Six Syracuse standouts earned NFHCA All-Mideast Region honors, including four first team selections.
Led by seniors Erin Gillingham, Lies Lagerweij and Laura Hurff, as well as junior Roos Weers' selection to the first team, 'Cuse is one of six schools nationally with six or more selections to All-Region teams. Only NCAA Champion UConn (eight) and Penn State (seven) have more this season. The Orange are also one of six institutions with four-or-more first team honorees.

In addition to the four first team selections, Claire Webb and Borg van der Velde earned second team recognition.
The six Orange student-athletes are now eligible to be selected to the All-America squad, which will be released on Dec. 5.
Hurff is seeking her third-straight All-America selection and this is also her third time earning first team all-region honors. Lagerweij and Weers are two-time first team all-region honorees and are each seeking their second All-America nods after earning NFHCA First Team All-America honors last season.
Gillingham, who has been a stalwart in the Orange midfield for her entire career, started all-19 games for the Orange, playing a starring role in her senior season. She finished with one goal and one assist. She finishes her Orange career having played in 76 career games, including every game since the start of her sophomore season. She moved into the starting lineup prior to the 2015 NCAA Tournament and helped lead the Orange to the first NCAA title in program history.
Hurff started 18 games this season, finishing the year with 16 points on five goals and six assists, including a game-winner. She finishes her time at 'Cuse with 77 games played, 20 goals and 15 assists. She's a two-time All-American, three time all-region selection and three-time NFHCA All-Academic Team honoree.
Lagwerweij has done it all at Syracuse, playing both back and forward. She wrapped up her final season at 'Cuse with five goals and three assists, while also leading the Orange back line to allowing the second-fewest goals against in a season in Syracuse history. She's also one of the school's most prolific scorers ever, finishing her career 15th on the career goals list with 27.
Weers enters her senior season with a chance to re-write the Orange record books, finishing her third campaign at Syracuse ranked 14th on the all-time points list (85) and 13th on the all-time goals list (32). She finished the year with 19 points on seven goals and five assists, while also bolstering the back line from her center back position. Weers was also the Syracuse captain this season.
Webb notched her first career goal against Drexel and recorded an assist in three-straight games. She has started every game of her 'Cuse career through her first-two seasons, earning all-region honors for the first time this year.
van der Velde had one of the best statistical seasons by a Syracuse goalkeeper in program history. She helped lead the Orange to the fewest goals allowed since 1993, set the program's single-season shutouts record, which was the 25th-most shutouts in a single season in NCAA history. She had a goals against average of just 0.91, the fourth-best in Syracuse history. Only Michelle Dion (0.57) in 1986, Cheri Herr (0.86 and 0.90) in 1993 and 1994 rank better.
'Cuse earned its 13th NCAA Tournament berth in 2017, which was the 10th-straight season head coach Ange Bradley's squad has made the trip to the Tournament.
