Mangakahia Earns ACC Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following a record-breaking performance at the Paradise Jam, sophomore guard Tiana Mangakahia has been tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon. This is the first conference honor for Mangakahia and the first league accolade for any Orange player this season.
The Meadowbrook, Australia native averaged 14.5 points, 12.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds in four games this past week and was named the Paradise Jam MVP. Mangakahia has recorded at least 10 assists in every game for the Orange this year. She currently leads the nation in total assists (71) and assists per game (11.8).
Mangakahia totaled 17 assists against Wisconsin on Nov. 24, breaking both the Syracuse program record and the Paradise Jam tournament record for single-game assists. The sophomore amassed 41 total assists throughout the tournament, setting a new record for most assists in a three-game Paradise Jam tournament.
In addition to dishing the ball, Mangakahia is racking up the points this season, posting double-digit games in five straight starts. She is averaging 13.3 points per game this year and leads the Orange with five double-doubles (points/assists) this season.
Mangakahia and the Orange return to the court on Thursday night when they take on Northwestern in the Big 10/ACC Challenge. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Carrier Dome and the game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
