Orange Track Schedule Kicks off Saturday
11/30/2017 2:35:00 PM | Track and Field
The Greg Page Relays on Saturday will kickoff a busy 2017-18 slate for the Syracuse track and field teams, which features 26 meets in 10 different states between the indoor and outdoor campaigns.
Saturday's season opener is the lone meet of 2017, with the Orange slated to resume its indoor season in mid-January to push for a second ACC Indoor Championship in the last three years after the 'Cuse men brought home the title in 2016.
Head coach Chris Fox and company will head to the Albany Great Dane Invite on January 13, before heading just south to Cornell for the second time at the Upstate Challenge on January 20.
The competition kicks into full gear the following week at a trio of some of the nation's most competitive meets. Some members of the Orange will take on the UW Invitational, where Justyn Knight won the mile last year, while others will head to Boston for the John Thomas Invitational – an event where Orange alum Adam Palamar won the mile as well. The sprinters and jumpers will take on the Armory Invitational in New York City that weekend.
It'll be three-straight trips to Boston after that, with the Harvard Crimson Elite (Feb. 2), BU Bruce Lehane Invite (Feb. 3) and BU Valentine Invite (Feb. 9-10) winding down the regular season before one last trip to Cornell for the Marc Deneault Invite (Feb. 17) tunes the squad up for the ACC Championship.
The ACC Championships will be at Clemson from Feb. 22-24, with the NCAA Championships set to follow two weeks later in College Station, Texas from March 9-10.
The Outdoor slate will kick off the last weekend in March with the sprinters heading to the Florida Relays, while the distance runners will head west to the Stanford Invite. It was at the Stanford Invite last year that Paige Stoner raced to a 10th place finish in the 10k, setting up an All-American outdoor campaign.
The sprinters and jumpers will head back to Florida the following week for the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational, where Freddie Crittenden III posted what was the world's third fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles last season. The 4x100-meter relay team of Justice Richardson, Kadejhia Sellers, Victoria Parker and Dasia Pressley took second at the meet as well. That same weekend, some members of the Orange will compete at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton.
Another trip to Princeton for the Larry Ellis Invitational (April 20-21), the Virginia Challenge (April 20-21), the Penn Relays (April 26-28), Virginia Grain Prix (April 28) and Big Red Invitational (29) lead up to the final regular season meet of the season at the Payton Jordan Invitational. That's an event where Knight set the Syracuse 5k record and posted the fourth-best collegiate time ever last season, which the Orange will return to on May 3.
The ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place from May 10-12 at Miami, followed by the NCAA East Preliminaries from May 24-26 at North Florida.
Finally, the track season will once again end in Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Championships. Five members of the Orange made it there last season, highlighted by Knight's third place finish in the 5k.
