CALGARY, Alta. – Junior defenseman Allie Munroe will represent the Orange on the national stage this winter as she was selected to Canada's National Women's Development Team. The Development Team will compete in the 2018 Nations Cup in Fussen, Germany from Jan. 3-6, 2018.
Munroe is just one of seven defensemen selected to the team and is the only player from the CHA to make the Development Team. The junior participated in the Development Team's selection camp over the summer.
The Nations Cup will feature development teams from Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland for four days of competition. Canada will kick-off the 2018 Nations Cup against Finland at 9 a.m. ET on Jan. 3. The Canadian team has won gold 11 times at the Nations Cup, including back-to-back victories in 2015 and 2016.
Munroe has tallied six points (one goal and five assists) in 18 games played for the Orange this season. She leads the team in blocked shots with 34, averaging 1.88 per game this year. The defenseman currently ranks sixth all-time in program history for points by a defenseman with 37 in her three-year career at Syracuse.
