Syracuse returned to its winning ways on Wednesday with a win against Eastern Michigan. Junior Paschal Chukwu played a big role in the victory on both ends of the court.
Â
Chukwu posted his second career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds – both of are career highs. A key to his double-digit point total was his performance at the free throw line. Chukwu was 9-for-11 from the charity stripe, nearly matching his season total of free throws made (13).
Â
On the defensive end, Chukwu continued to be a force in the middle with five blocks. He also added two steals.
Â
"I thought Paschal was tremendous tonight," Boeheim said after the contest. "They have a very good guy in the middle. I thought he rolled him up. I thought he did a great job on him."
Â
Chukwu is now averaging 5.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He leads the team and ranks second in the ACC in blocks (3.2 bpg.). Last season, Chukwu's season was cut short by an eye injury. On Sunday, he will make his ACC debut when the Orange host Virginia Tech in the Carrier Dome at 6 p.m. Tickets are available online at Cuse.com, by phone at 1-888-DOMETIX or in person at Gate B at the Carrier Dome.
