Inside look at SU football's summer conditioning program
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The start of college football season is rapidly approaching and the Orange are busy gearing up for the opener against Central Connecticut State on Friday, Sept. 1.
The team has been on campus since late May readying their bodies for one of the toughest schedules any FBS team will face in 2017. Dubbed "Men of Summer," Syracuse's summer conditioning program is led by second-year Assistant AD for Athletic Performance Sean Edinger and his staff.
The first installment of this two-part series focuses on Edinger's philosophy. From implementing the tenants of the program over the last year and a half to how summer conditioning prepares the team for an intense fall training camp.
"I told the team before we started that my vision and my goal was to train a team that was sudden," Edinger said. "That was the word I used. That's the word I'm going to continue to use all summer. I want a team that is sudden. Some people get that right away and some people don't.
"In football terminology, sudden could mean violent, sudden could mean unexpected, sudden could mean explosive, sudden could mean decisive. I want to train a team that is very sudden, both in their athletic output, as well as their mentality when it comes to competition."
