Duo starred for head coach Dino Babers at Bowling Green
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Bowling Green football standouts Trent Greene and Matt Johnson have joined the Syracuse staff, head coach Dino Babers announced on Thursday, July 20. Greene and Johnson starred for Babers while he was the head coach of the Falcons and helped BGSU capture the 2015 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship.

Greene will serve a defensive graduate assistant for the Orange, while Johnson will work as the team's offensive quality control assistant.

A team captain and two-time All-MAC selection at linebacker, Greene played three seasons for the Falcons and totaled 248 career tackles, including 127 in 2015 to help BGSU win the conference title. The following season, Greene paced the Falcons with 111 stops and ranked fourth in the MAC in tackles per game (9.3).

A 2016 nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the best player in college football who began his career as a walk-on, Greene earned his undergraduate degree from BGSU in December 2016. He is pursuing a master's degree in instructional design, development and evaluation at Syracuse.

The 2015 MAC Offensive Player of the Year, Johnson played in 37 games for Bowling Green over four seasons and holds the BGSU record with 73 career touchdown passes.Â
As the starting quarterback for the Falcons in 2015, Johnson guided the squad to a 10-4 record and rewrote the team's single-season record book. He set school and conference records for passing yardage (4,946) and touchdown passes (46). He also established new BGSUÂ yearly marks for completions (383), completion percentage (.673) and yards of total offense (5,105).

In addition to being voted the conference's offensive player of the year and the MAC Vern Smith Leadership Award winner, Johnson earned 2015 honorable mention All-America honors from Sports Illustrated and won the prestigious Sammy Baugh Award, given to the nation's top passer each season by the Touchdown Club of Columbus.
Following his college career, Johnson signed a free-agent contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. He also previously spent time in the Canadian Football League as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
A native of Harrisburg, Pa., Johnson served as a coach for his high school alma mater – Bishop McDevitt – in 2016.

Single-game tickets for all home games are also on sale. Tickets start at $25 for non-conference games against Central Connecticut State, Middle Tennessee and Central Michigan, $30 for ACC matchups with Wake Forest and Boston College, $35 for the Oct. 7 Pittsburgh game on Orange Central Weekend, and $45 for the Clemson game on Oct. 13.
