Maryland Tops Orange in Final Exhibition

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – In a match of two teams ranked in the men's soccer preseason top 10, Maryland scored three first-half goals and defeated Syracuse, 3-0 in College Park, Md. on Saturday, August 19. It is the final exhibition for the Orange before they officially open the 2017 season next Friday at St. Louis.

Gordon Wild scored all three goals for the Terrapins. The first came in the sixth minute off an assist from Eryk Williamson. He scored his second goal in the 28th minute off a shot from 30 yards out. The final goal came in the 33rd minute when he scored on a rebound off Syracuse goalkeeper Hendrik Hilpert.

Maryland outshot the Orange, 12-2, while Syracuse had two corner kicks to one for the Terrapins. Hilpert finished with four saves.

The Orange, which are ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, officially open the 2017 season on Friday, Aug. 25 at St. Louis.
