Set Three Comeback Fuels Syracuse Victory Over Boston College

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A third set comeback fueled the Syracuse women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23) victory over Boston College Wednesday night at the Women's Building in the ACC opener for both sides. After trailing 23-18 in the third, 'Cuse (9-5, 1-0 ACC) scored seven unanswered points to come from behind and win, 25-23.
Anastasiya Gorelina led Syracuse with a career-high 20 kills and Kendra Lukacs totaled a career-high 18 kills and added 15 digs. Santita Ebangwese totaled 11 kills with four blocks and Belle Sand tallied a match-high 22 digs.
How It Was Decided
With the first set tied at 11, Syracuse went on an 8-4 scoring run to pull away from Boston College (3-8, 0-1 ACC) and the Orange held on for a 25-23 victory.
The Eagles jumped out to a 20-13 advantage in the second set and held off a late 'Cuse comeback attempt to take the set, 25-21.
After trailing 23-18 in set three, Syracuse used five Lukacs kills, a kill from Mariia Levanova and a BC error to complete the comeback and win the set, 25-23.
The Orange never trailed in the fourth set and used an Ebangwese kill to cap off the 25-23 victory.
Coach's Thoughts
"We are really happy to come away with this kind of win," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "There are a lot of things that we have to keep improving on, the players know that, and we're going to keep working."
Of Note
With 22 digs on the night, Sand moves up to sixth in program history with 1,248 career digs.

The Orange hit the road to face Pittsburgh in an ACC match on Friday, Sep. 22 at 7 p.m.
