
Orange Pitching Staff Leads Wins Against Rutgers, Robert Morris

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Syracuse softball pitching staff led the way to two wins at day two of the Lowcountry Classic in Charleston, S.C. Across two games and 15 innings, the Orange pitchers allowed three runs and six hits, holding Rutgers and Robert Morris to 13 scoreless innings.
Madison Knight started in the 2-1 extra innings victory over Rutgers, with Kaia Oliver adding three relief innings in the winning effort against the Scarlett Knights. Junior left-handed pitcher Lindsey Hendrix threw a complete game against Robert Morris, allowing two runs on one hit.
Sophomores Tessa Galipeau, Angie Ramos and Laila Alves all drove in runs in Saturday's contests.
GAME ONE VS. RUTGERS:
The scoring began in the second inning, as the Orange scored first in a game for the first time at the Lowcountry Classic. With Madelyn Lopez on second, Alves lined a single, putting Syracuse ahead, 1-0. Rutgers tied the game up its in own half of the second, as Payton Lincavage roped an RBI double, 1-1.
After the second inning, both pitching staffs controlled the game, as neither team scored another run until extra innings. Syracuse produced the game winning run in the top of the eighth inning. With Starr on second base, a Rutgers fielding error brought the freshman shortstop all the way home for the game winning run.
In Rutger's half of the eighth inning, a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third base, but a fielder's choice and a strikeout ended the game, securing Syracuse's 2-1 win in extra innings.
From the circle, Knight excelled in her 4th start of the season. The freshman went 4.2 innings, striking out four batters while allowing one run on four hits and three walks. In relief, Oliver earned the win, as the senior right-handed pitcher allowed one hit and zero runs in 3.1 innings.
Rutger's starting pitcher Morgan Smith pitched five innings, sitting down five batters with one earned run.
GAME TWO VS. ROBERT MORRIS:
In their half of the first, the Colonials struck first, scoring runs on a fielding error and a fielder's choice.
Syracuse fought back in the top of the second, scoring the eventual game winning runs. With a runner on first base, Galipeau hit a ball to deep left, bringing home Rebecca Clyde for 'Cuse's first run, 2-1. After Trinity Nichols and Ryan Starr reached base safely, Ramos knocked in two runs, providing Syracuse the game-winning runs, 3-2.
Both pitching staff commanded the rest of the contest. Hendrix threw six scoreless innings, tossing her fourth career complete game. The Orlando, Florida native allowed just one hit and one run on her way to seven strikeouts. Robert Morris starting pitcher Dana Vatakis also threw a complete game, striking out six batters. Â Â
