Katie Scanlon enters her 14th year at Syracuse, and first as the Director of Student-Athlete Success and Engagement, which she was promoted to in June, 2025.
Scanlon leads Syracuse Athletics’ student-athlete academic development staff, which is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating academic support plans, monitoring tutoring, coordinating with campus advisors and faculty, assisting with career development and creating programming related to the holistic development of all 550+ student-athletes.
She also manages numerous organizational partnerships across campus with various academic and student programs and serves as an athletic department representative for various committees.
Scanlon arrived at Syracuse in December, 2011 as an academic coordinator. She became the Director of Student-Athlete Development in November, 2017. In her time with the Orange, she has worked with nearly every varsity program, including, recently, the men’s basketball team.
Scanlon arrived at Syracuse after spending three years at New Mexico (2008-11) and two years at Dayton (2006-08).
A native of Oswego, N.Y., Scanlon was a four-year letterwinner and captain of the Canisius University (formerly Canisius College) synchronized swimming team. Scanlon led the Golden Griffins to four ECAC titles during her career and earned a bachelor’s degree from the school. Scanlon received a master’s degree in higher education administration from Dayton. Most recently, Scanlon received her Ph.D. in higher education from Syracuse University.
In 2013, Scanlon was named to Central New York’s prestigious “40 Under Forty” list which recognizes local professionals under the age of 40 who exemplify leadership through their business accomplishments and community involvement. Scanlon is a member of Women Leaders in College Sports. She is also swimming and diving official and volunteers with the Special Olympics.
